Could Etihad Stadium go solar?
Manchester City's Etihad Stadium is capped by a sweeping cable-stayed roof that rings the bowl. Across roughly 25,000 sq m of that structure, a full-roof solar array is estimated at a theoretical ~3.7 MW — theoretical rather than promised — producing somewhere between 2.6 and 3.2 million kWh a year. At Manchester's ~890 sunshine hours, that still stacks up to around 1,060 homes' electricity.
