Solar installers · South-West England

Solar installers in South-West England.

The South-West catches more sun than anywhere else in Britain, which makes it one of the strongest regions in the country for home solar. From the Bristol and Bath commuter belt down through Devon and Cornwall, most roofs here are good candidates, and the yield numbers back that up.

By the numbers

≈982–1,104 kWh per kWp a year, around the UK average

For every kilowatt of panels, a well-placed roof across South-West England generates roughly this much a year, with where you land in the range depending on your town, roof direction, pitch and shading. The roof check estimates it for your exact address.

Local context

Roofs across South-West England.

What South-West roofs tend to be like:

  • Georgian and Victorian stone. Bath and central Bristol hold extensive conservation areas, so visible-slope panels are worth checking with the council early. Rear slopes are often the route.
  • Coastal exposure. Cornish and Devon coastal roofs take salt and wind, so fixings and flashing matter more here. An installer survey confirms what a given roof needs.
  • Post-war and new-build estates. Swindon, Taunton, Exeter and Plymouth have plenty of straightforward pitched semis and detached homes that are easy solar candidates.

Grants & support

What help is available in South-West England?

Solar and battery installations across the UK are currently zero-rated for VAT until 31 March 2027 — a straight saving on the installed price for every household, with no application needed. In England, ECO4 and the Warm Homes scheme can help eligible lower-income households with energy-efficiency measures through their energy supplier or local council.

Eligibility for grant schemes depends on your income, home and circumstances, and the schemes change. We keep the current picture on one page rather than guess what you'll qualify for.
