How to choose
Choosing a local solar company.
The company matters as much as the panels. A good installer designs for your specific roof, is straight about what it will and won't deliver, and is still around for aftercare. A few things worth checking:
- MCS certification. Non-negotiable — it's what lets your system qualify for the Smart Export Guarantee. Ask for the certificate number and check it.
- An on-roof survey. Any final suitability call needs someone on your roof checking structure, shading and wiring. A desktop estimate — ours included — never replaces it.
- Three written quotes. Compare panel and inverter specs, not just the headline price. A clear, itemised quote is a good sign in itself.
- Local knowledge. An installer who works your area knows its roof stock, planning quirks and conservation rules — useful, though MCS and a proper survey matter more.
- How they were found. Solarable lists installers and labels featured placements as paid. We don't rank, endorse, or resell your details to anyone.

Common questions
FAQs about finding solar companies.
How do I find MCS-certified solar installers near me?
Enter your postcode above to see listed installers covering your area, or pick your city below. Every installer we list has to show a valid MCS certificate number before going live — MCS is the UK standard that lets your system qualify for the export tariff (SEG). Always confirm an installer is MCS-certified before you sign anything.
Are local solar companies better than national ones?
Not automatically — but a genuinely local installer knows your area's roof stock, planning quirks and conservation rules, and is easier to get back for aftercare. What matters more is MCS certification, a proper on-roof survey, and a clear written quote. Use local as a tie-breaker, not the only test.
How many quotes should I get?
Three is the usual advice. It gives you a feel for a fair price, panel and inverter options, and how each company approaches your specific roof. Solarable doesn't route or resell your details — you contact listed installers directly, on your terms.
Does Solarable vet or rank installers?
We check a valid MCS certificate number before an installer goes live, and featured placements are clearly labelled as paid. Beyond that we don't rank or endorse — Solarable is a paid directory, not a lead broker. We never sell your details or promise installers guaranteed leads. A listing is a starting point; your own survey and quotes decide it.
What should I have ready before I call an installer?
Check your roof first. A free Solarable Report gives you your roof's likely main direction and rough suitability, so you walk into the conversation already knowing whether your roof is a strong, possible or difficult candidate — and can spot a quote that doesn't add up.
